Playhouse West New York has been structured to provide students with top-notch education and the kind of training which transforms their acting skills into something they can be proud of. The pillars of this institution are: INTEGRITY, DRIVE, ART, DISCIPLINE and VOCATION. Our goal is to enable our students with tools that allow for them to become highly instinctual, authentic and consistent. Our acting curriculum follows the Meisner Technique, the way it was intended by Mr. Meisner and passed on so generously by Mr. Robert Carnegie to the Playhouse West community.
Extra curricular classes including movement, voice & speech and history of the theater are also offered periodically, as Miss Dantas firmly believes that the actor of the future is the one who is highly intelligent, intuitive, artistic, and prepared. Her international background in the arts has forced her to absorb many different cultures, become fluent in several languages and extremely curious about human beings. And that's what she instills in her students. She aims to forge them into one of a kind actors by pushing them outside of their comfort zone.
Our school is also a place of community. Being an aspiring actor in New York can be very intimidating. Having a homebase, a "tribe", a place to go to and exchange ideas, projects and aspirations, is vital to the life of the actor. That is why we encourage our students to participate in all Playhouse West Film Festivals and create their own content. That is why more than ever, this school will become a place where many artistic projects will be developed and presented in Manhattan to the general public, in an attempt to put everything that is learned in the classroom to the test. Even though our standards are very high, let's not leave the fun out of this game we call acting!
