The Playhouse West 72-hour Short Film Festival is a three-part filmmaking competition. Twenty (20) Production Teams will compete to see who can make the best 5-minute short film in 72 hours.  

PART 1 - REGISTRATION 
​
  • Registration Fee = $21 / team
  • Designate one person to register the team and serve as point of contact. There is no limit to the number of participants in each Production Team. 
  • All cast members acting in the films MUST BE CURRENT Playhouse West members. 
  • The production crews may consist of former Playhouse members and individuals outside of Playhouse West.

PART 2  begins Friday, May 13th @ 3pm:  
  • A meeting will be held at 3pm, in which the Production Teams will receive a log-line idea that must be represented in the storytelling. 
  • At 4pm, the teams will be released from the meeting and will then have 72 hours to write, cast, shoot and edit their 5-minute short film
  • The completed movie must be submitted by 4pm, Monday,  May 16th. 
 
PART 3
All completed films will be screened the following weekend - Saturday, May 21 @ 8p

Following the screening, the Jury of Judges will present awards for Best Actor and Best Actress (Comedy and Drama), and Best Short Film (Comedy and Drama). The winners of the Best Short Film awards will be automatically selected and screened at the 2017 Playhouse West Film Festival!

 
A Payment Request will be return-emailed to each registrant.
  • The entry fee must be paid by credit/debit card via PayPal (no PayPal account needed) within 24 hours of the Payment Request; otherwise the reserved spot will be forfeited.
  • There will be NO REFUNDS - no exceptions - for Production Teams who withdraw from the competition, for any reason, prior to May 13.
  • Once the competition begins, each team will be required to read and sign the Official Rules Agreement which outlines the festival rules each Production Team must follow thereafter.

Twenty (20) Production Teams compete to see who can make the

Registration opens - Thursday, June 1 at 12noon.  Teams will sign up and pay the entry fee of $21 per Team.  There is no limit to the number of participants allowed in each Production Team.


All cast members acting in the films must be current Playhouse West members.  The production crews may consist of former Playhouse West members and individuals outside of Playhouse West.

Competition begins - on Wednesday, June 7 at 3pm.  Each team will receive a log-line that must be represented 
in the storytelling of the film.  The teams will then have 120 hours to write, cast, shoot and edit their 5-minute short film which then must be submitted by 4pm - Monday, June 12.    

Screening - All completed films will be screened the following weekend, Saturday, June 17 - 7pm at Playhouse West - Magnolia 1.( 10634 Magnolia Bl., NoHo.)

Following the screening, a Competition Committee will present awards for Best Actor and Actress, Best Short Film, and several surprise award catagories!  

​Winners of the Best Short Film award will be automatically selected and screened at the Playhouse West Film Festival - March 2018 at the El Portal Theater!

At the opening-night ceremony of the Playhouse West Film Festival, a short film is screened before the main-event feature film. This year, that short film will be the winner of our first-ever, PWFF 120 hour filmmaking competition!

  • The Team Contact Member must type their name on the Official Rules Agreement and then return-email it before 4:30pm of that same day.
  • Once the Official Rules Agreement has been return-emailed, the teams will then have 120 hours to write, cast, shoot and edit their
    5-minute short film.
  • The completed films must be submitted via Dropbox download by 4pm, Tuesday,  February 14.  Films submitted after 4pm will not be accepted - no exceptions!
 
PART 3 - VOTING SELECTION
  • The PWFF Committee 2017 will vote on the winner which will be announce on - Monday, February 20.​
